TITCHFIELD of Portland defeated Clarendon College 43-19 as the second round of the 2013 ISSA/Digicel Rural Area High School Junior and Senior League netball competitions got under way at The Queen's High School Courts yesterday.
The Portlanders, coached by Winston Wilson, maintained their unbeaten run after topping Zone L of their preliminary round. Titchfield led throughout the four quarters after a slow first quarter in which they only led 9-6.

In the last three quarters, Titchfield applied more pressure on their opponents, leading 22-11 at the end of the second quarter. Their shooters Tanielle Lee and Sherifah McKessie outscored Clarendon College 17-12 for a lead of 39-18 at the third quarter break before pulling away to the easy win.
Goalkeeper Tisje Brown played a key role in defending well and also restricting the Clarendon shooters from scoring on many occasions with her neat blocking and interceptions.
Meanwhile, Titchfield juniors also kept their unbeaten winning streak intact with a 33-13 win over Claude McKay High, also at the Queen's Courts.
Titchfield have not lost a game since the season, but drew with Yallahs in the preliminary round.
Titchfield juniors, who are also coached by Wilson, led in all four quarters 7-6, 13-8 and 19-12.

Holmwood looking to win for late skipper Shakeria

CLARENDON PARK, Clarendon — Despite scoring massive victories in their opening second-round fixtures, Holmwood Technical coach Carline Graham-Powell believes both her Senior and Junior League teams have the potential to be even more ruthless in the ISSA/Digicel schoolgirl netball competitions.
The Seniors romped past Charlemont 55-7, while the Juniors turned back Tacius Golding 44-13 in their Group Four match-ups at Clarendon Park on Wednesday.
Throughout both contests, Graham-Powell could be heard on the sideline instructing her players to be more clinical.
"Play against the clock,"
she urged.
In her post-game interview, Graham-Powell later revealed that was simply her way of trying to keep "the girls" motivated.
"Whenever you are playing against a weak opponent you can't afford to slack up. You have to try to maintain a certain standard," she said.
"If you become complacent against the weaker teams you will have issues later on in the competition when you meet the stronger teams."
And this season, in particular, they cannot afford to "slack up". They are on a mission.
"We want to win for Shakeria," Graham-Powell revealed.
Shakeria Muschett was one of the four Holmwood Technical students who died in September, resulting from that "catastrophic bus crash, allegedly triggered by improper overtaking", along the Chudleigh main road in Manchester.
Fifteen-year-old Muschett was the captain of the school's Junior League netball team and also a member of the Jamaica Under-16 squad.
On the day of the accident, she was due to lead her team into action against Bellefield High in their opening game of the season. Understandably, the tragedy forced the game to be postponed. But, while Holmwood have since far gone on to qualify for the second round of the competition, playing without their leader has not been easy.
"It's a bit difficult," Graham-Powell told the Jamaica Observer. "Early season we had a game plan, but with the death of Shakeria we have to be making some adjustments. People have to be changing role so the junior team is not where we want it to be. In fact, both teams still have a lot to do."
Today when they take on Claude McKay at Clarendon College in Chapelton, their opponent might not be strong enough to constantly keep them on their toes, but rest assured that they will be focused on the mission at hand, even if it means playing against the clock.
